Choosing Your Primary Care Provider

When you join AmeriHealth Caritas District of Columbia (DC), one of our network providers will manage your care.

This doctor is called your primary care provider or your PCP. Your PCP sees you and your family for check-ups, refers you to other doctors when needed and is your health care partner.

How to choose your PCP

  • When you join the Healthy DC Plan, you can pick your PCP. If you do not pick a PCP, one will be assigned to you. You can change your PCP at any time.
  • If you need a PCP, you can search the provider directory (PDF). The provider directory has the office locations, hours of operation, telephone numbers, and other information about AmeriHealth Caritas DC's providers.
    You can also use the online provider directory tool.
  • Call Enrollee Services at 1-844-214-2470 (TTY 711) if you need help choosing a PCP
  • Choose a PCP for each family enrollee in your plan. You can also choose the same PCP for everyone in your family.
  • AmeriHealth Caritas DC will send you an enrollee ID card. Your card will have your PCPs name and phone number on it.

Tips for choosing your PCP

  • Choose a PCP who is close to your home or work.
  • Try to choose a PCP who can send you to the hospital you want. The provider directory lists which hospitals a PCP can send you to.
